that wasn't meant to be a chance to flaunt one of your favourite bands.

Oh, it was meant to be, alright!

I wrote this while waiting for the train home after Pearl Jam. Nothing special, was very sleep deprived at the time. Kept me occupied for 30 minutes or so.

The train ride alone can be quite a boring journey. Nothing much to do as different people come and go from the carriage, nameless masses that will be a faded memory before to long as they hurry by past you, not even stopping to say hello. It is said that one can feel loneliest when surrounded by people. The train is a perfect example of how the isolated and neglected of our society can travel so close to each other yet be separated by worlds, each trapped in their own pool of emptiness.

As the train rolls from suburb, city to city, the dull and monotonous journey becomes increasingly harder and harder to lose in a sea of self-reflection. As the train passes through urban areas, I like to look at the houses. I like to look at windows and see if I can get a fleeting glimpse of someone else's existence. To see someone for that microsecond. To contemplate what they are thinking, what they are doing, to make sense of that split second of vision that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. For instance, I saw a man tonight through his window. In that split second of vision, I saw him slightly lower his head and put his hands on his hips. I thought to myself that he must have been telling off the wife. Of course I have no way of knowing this, it was just my way of interpreting his life.

But why do this? Guessing peoples actions really has no reward. There is no way to check if it was right or wrong so the satisfaction of being right is lost. No, it is much better to take these peep-hole glances and make a story around it. Not be stuck by a gloomy reality, not try to be right, its about being creative. Make up a story for them. Make it fun. Give them a backstory, motivation for their actions. It doesn't have to be perfect. All it has to be is entertaining, or as least time consuming. The power to create is limited by your own imagination.

So next time you are sitting alone on a train, don't look out the window at someone in the next train sitting all alone and judge him in reality, that is depressing. Its a negative perpetual focus which is only going to lead to a more negative mindset. There is just so much to explore in your own mind, and I'm hoping this will act as a catalyst to release the wonder and magnificence. If nothing else, looking out that window may lead to seeing boob... even if only for a split second.

That concert was just gold. Wasn't expecting much, Pearl jam are just one of those bands you need to see live before they split.
